I was recently at a seminar on the new health care law and they brought up an interesting fact. The group hosting the seminar said that not many people in the health care industry ever thought this law would actually be implemented. Many thought it would be declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, but it wasn't. Then, many people thought Mitt Romney was going to be elected and that the law would be repealed. That didn't happen either.
After that, those people had to finally come to terms that this law is going to be implemented (the degree to which is still a little hazy). We do know now that many of the major parts of the law are going into effect beginning next year. Enrollment through the exchanges (or marketplace), begins on Oct. 1st for those without health insurance or those looking to change plans.
These drastic changes have created a tremendous amount of misinformation and confusion in the marketplace. The group hosting the seminar put it this way, "The next 36 months are going to be ugly in the health insurance world." This is why there needs to be a valuable resource for pharmacy owners and pharmacy employees to ask questions about the new law.
We have created a new message board for community pharmacy owners and employees to be able to ask questions and get the right information. We operate them under the rule that there are no such things as stupid questions. If you have them, please post them and we will get you the correct answer as soon as possible.
